Case study:Achates develops Strategy: China Plate Theatre

Achates support was invaluable in helping us articulate our new strategic roadmap to Arts Council England via the NPO process. Their knowledge, insight and level-headedness were hugely appreciated by our whole team, as were the good communication and quick responses under pressure.

China Plate is an independent producer of contemporary theatre, working with artists, venues, and festivals to make and present engaging, entertaining and accessible new work. Using performance to engage and inspire, China Plate’s work fires the imagination, affects positive change and is open to all.

The organisation has built a successful track record of collaborating with communities and artists to create co-designed projects and had reached a pivotal moment as it sought to open up and further develop this producing model within the context of its new strategic roadmap.

In spring 2022, Achates supported China Plate to develop its funding application to remain in Arts Council England’s NPO (National Portfolio Organisation) funding programme. This work centred around taking the organisation’s business plan and strategy to draw out a robust argument for NPO funding, which was clearly articulated across both the application narrative and delivery plans.
