Case study:Achates Recruits: Hastings Contemporary, Trustees

Our recent recruitment campaign led by executive search agents Achates was utterly invaluable, supporting me as CEO and our Chair through all aspects of the process. Achates brilliantly headhunted some key potential candidates, whilst also devised a compelling job description which attracted astonishing talent to support our journey as an Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio Organisation.
As the search elicited a number of equally outstanding applicants to choose from, Trustees were able to take positive action to ensure our board be as representative as possible of Hastings (and wider England) and redress any historic imbalance in representation and to ensure that we can help deliver ACE’s Let’s Create strategy.
We now benefit from having a clear legacy plan with identified future needs and even a pool of potential future Trustees.

In early 2022, Achates supported Hastings Contemporary in recruiting new Trustees to their board. Through extensive conversation with their Chief Executive, Chair and current Trustees, we helped Hastings Contemporary identify the skills that their governance function needed for the coming years, and importantly, the profile new Trustees needed to better to reflect the social background of their local community.
