Achates believes that we should be a vibrant part of the cultural ecosystem and we make our contribution in a range of ways: from pro bono sessions for organisations facing key challenges, to the regular support offered by Achates Live!, through to our sponsorship of initiatives and events, including the Achates Philanthropy Prize and Thought Leadership Conference. Launched in 2016 and facilitated by the Achates Philanthropy Foundation, it is the only annual prize that celebrates first-time cultural giving in the UK and the democratisation of culture. The 2021 Achates Philanthropy Foundation Symposium
In November 2021, the Achates Philanthropy Foundation staged its first Symposium, All that’s been revealed… a series of nightly conversations with creatives and thought leaders challenging the cultural sector to think differently. Achates were proud to sponsor the Symposium, which was also supported by the Trustees of the Foundation.
This artist-led programme of events was curated by the writer and theatre director, Javaad Alipoor (The Believers Are But Brothers, Rich Kids: A History of Shopping Malls in Tehran).
Bringing together leaders from across the arts, these provocative discussions were recorded and represent an important resource for anyone who wants to be part of bringing about real change. Events were captioned by Stagetext and you can also download the text to Javaad’s powerful keynote speech here.
The Symposium was presented in partnership withBattersea Arts Centre, Beatfreeks, Manchester International Festival, The National Centre for Writing, The People’s Orchestra, Rifco Theatre Company, Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery, Stagetext, Theatre503 and Union Chapel.
The annual Achates Philanthropy Prize will return in 2022.
