A Fresh Approach to Leadership Development

A dusty pink and dark green graphic with hands cupping some soil with a young plant growing from it with the text: 'A Fresh Approach to Leadership Development' and then text below, saying 'Achates Community - The revolution in cultural sector support'

Have you ever wondered how to make your ideas for the sector a reality? How to take stakeholders – those more senior and more junior than you – with you to develop an idea or implement something new? How to navigate the complexities of leading with care whilst also encouraging resilience in your teams and wider organisations? How to develop a more entrepreneurial mindset whilst also balancing the need for risk? Who to turn to when you feel stuck in trying to answer questions like this?

Look no further than the Purposeful Leader Programme – a fresh new approach to leadership development for the cultural sector and a critical strand of the Achates Community offer which goes live in October.

Programme Format

The programme will run over the course of a year with 9 live, facilitated and participatory webinars which will address a key leadership topic each month. Participants will join a small cohort of no more than 15 for a personalised and discursive approach to leadership development. The programme will initially launch with a short introductory session in October 2024 to outline the goals of the programme. This introductory session will be available online for you to catch up on if you can’t join live. This introductory session will then be followed by the 9 x hour-long monthly webinar sessions (with a break in December and August) exploring a key leadership topic each time.

The programme will kick off with an interactive workshop outlining your ambitions for the sector, for your organisation and for your own role within them building on the learning from Achates Community module 2 which centres on Audiences and Purpose.

Over the initial few sessions, you will develop your own leadership manifesto learning key organisational development tools such as the Triple Bottom Line, the Audience-Informed Approach and the importance of articulating purpose in decision-making.

You will then test your leadership manifesto against real issues facing leaders today including

-collaboration and influence

-entrepreneurialism with purpose

-risk

-navigating change and leading in a crisis

Each session will centre around dialogue and peer learning with conversations facilitated by Achates’ Director of Recruitment and Organisational Change, Vicki Grace, with live and relevant examples brought in from the sector each month.

Who Can Join?

Participation in the programme is self-selected to encourage diversity of thought and experience within the group and to recognise the importance of leadership at all levels in the development of our sector.

So, whether you are an established senior professional in the industry or someone taking their first initial steps towards leading, the Purposeful Leader Programme has you covered.

Whether you’re wondering how to influence your Board to make decisions that aren’t solely financially motivated or how to support your team to develop their resilience in a challenging environment, there’s something for you across the programme.
