Case study:Achates Recruits: The Albany, Chair

Working with Achates was critical for the successful recruitment of a new Chair for the Albany. It was extremely helpful to have outside expertise guide the process, and to work with consultants who really understood the sector and what we were trying to achieve. Achates were able to faciliate sensitive conversations with the Board and stakeholders when needed. They were able to be flexible and help us adapt and rethink the process as required to ultimately achieve a very positive outcome.

The Albany, located in the heart of Deptford, London exists to inspire and support
creativity within its local community. The organisation is at an exciting moment in its
history as it seeks to expand its role as a cultural anchor for Lewisham, to grow its
profile and influence across London and nationally, and to build on its community
co-creation foundations to embed a democratic approach across all that they do.
Achates was delighted to support the Albany in recruiting a new Chair of the Board
to lead them into the future with these priorities in mind.

Achates worked with the Albany throughout the recruitment process, supporting
with the creation of a clear job pack, through extensive research, candidate
conversations and supporting Chief Executive, Gavin Barlow, and the Board to make
the appointment. Our approach focused on individuals who could provide dynamic
leadership for the Albany and who could set an example in adopting a democratic
approach and representing and reflecting the Albany’s crucial diverse key
stakeholder – their local community across Lewisham.
