Case study:Achates Generates Income: Tamasha

Tamasha is a theatre company based in Islington providing a dedicated home for both emerging and established Global Majority artists. A powerhouse of new writing, talent development and digital innovation, the organisation platforms and invests in stories that celebrate rich shared histories and cultures. Proudly both artist and audience driven, Tamasha is disrupting, dismantling, and inspiring through bold and imaginative storytelling, providing a place to explore lived experiences and unique perspectives.

As part of its work to develop and enhance the organisation’s fundraising capacity in order to capitalise on the opportunities created through its 35th anniversary in 2025, Tamasha worked with Achates to evolve its approach to individual giving, with a specific focus on major donor fundraising. Achates led a series of workshops to refine the organisation’s articulated statement of purpose, priority audiences and narrative summary of its Theory of Change. This provided a basis upon which to inform the shape and make up of its future prospect-base, the philanthropy proposition itself and the associated donor reciprocation, as well as the creation of distinctive case for support arguments and tailored donor journeys to enable Tamasha to engage prospects and deepen relationships in an authentic and purpose-led way.

Through this process, Achates supported Tamasha to develop a comprehensive roadmap for developing major donor giving, with a set of principles and practices that the staff team had created together and which were reflective of the organisation’s distinctive work and approach.

The work with Achates was instrumental in helping us to clarify, as a team and Board, what our organisation's narrative was and what our priority audiences were. We were encouraged to think outside the box with donor incentives and benefits, building a strong foundation for future fundraising work, especially around Major Donors.
