Case study:Achates Recruits: Cardboard Citizens

Overall this has been the most successful recruitment process in terms of volume, diversity and calibre of candidates that I have seen for this role in the 15 years I have worked here. We are very excited to welcome our new post holder to the role in the coming months.

Lisa Caughey, Executive Director and Joint CEO

Cardboard Citizens uses the power of the arts to engage, educate and inspire people with and without lived experience of homelessness; building knowledge and skills and empowering them to make positive changes in their own lives and wider society. In spring 2021 Achates supported the recruitment of the new Director of Development and Communications, leading an inclusive recruitment process which saw 24 candidates apply, of which 60% were from groups identified as underrepresented in Cardboard Citizens’ and the wider cultural sector workforce. Cardboard Citizens ultimately appointed a high-calibre candidate from Alexandra Palace, with over a decade’s experience fundraising for the arts. Achates will continue to provide training to support them in their first Director-level position.
